Book Talk Review; The Hunger Games

It's Thursday! I don't think anyone noticed that I skipped Tuesday (Ssh don't tell them) But here's a new Book Talk!

The nation of Panem, formed from a post-apocalyptic North America, is a country that consists of a wealthy Capitol region surrounded by 12 poorer districts.

Early in its history, a rebellion led by a 13th district against the Capitol resulted in its destruction and the creation of an annual televised event known as the Hunger Games. In punishment, and as a reminder of the power and grace of the Capitol, each district must yield one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 through a lottery system to participate in the games.

The 'tributes' are chosen during the annual Reaping and are forced to fight to the death, leaving only one survivor to claim victory.

When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place.

She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. She sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before.

For her, survival is second nature.

I can't stress to you enough how much I loved this book.

It was hard to get into at first becasue it started off kind of slow but it slowly made it's way up and I loved the book so much.

I love Peeta, the boy with the bread. He doesn't seem like much at first and Katniss has reservations due to the small history between them but they just have this chemistry about them.

This world is so different from the one that we live in. In a post-apocalyptic world the thriving capitol uses its control to force 24 12-18 year olds to fight to the death.

It's entertainment for the capitol citizens and horror for the District citizens.

Katniss volunteers to take her sisters place. Being sixteen she doesn't want that fate forced onto her twelve year old sister.

Her partner is Peeta. Together they work together to train for the Games. But once in the arena all bets are off.

Until a plot twist comes in the middle of the Games. One that can change everything.

Of course the Capitol isn't going to allow the rules to change. They are just going to allow the tributes to think that.

But then Katniss changes the Game, for every one.

I loved this book and thought that Suzanne did a great job with it. There was enough action and intense scenes and also enough romance thrown in there to keep me entertained.

There are emotions that are run through this book, Katniss is not the emotional type of girl, but she has seen death. She has seen pain and she knows what it is like to survive. Using that she is able to save not only herself but the boy who she may or may not have feelings for.

Once every thing changes nothing will ever be the same and we will see the consequences of their actions in the second book Catching Fire.
