Changing Forever; Review

Lisa De Jong's latest book Changing Forever is now available. I got the pleasure of reading this beautiful book and now I'm going to share it with you.
I’ve always let my past dictate my future, letting it paint a picture of exactly what I don’t want to be. Where I don’t want to end up.

Drake Chambers is as arrogant as I am stubborn. A college quarterback, a national star. I thought he was just another one of those guys … the type every girl should stay away from, but he’s carrying more than the weight of the football team on his shoulders.

He unravels the feelings and beliefs I’ve held onto for so long.

I thought we had it all figured out. Two people who’d finally found their happily ever after, but the past always has a way of sneaking into the present.

With one decision, everything changes … forever.
This is the second Lisa De Jong book that I have read. And it is amazing. The writing is so beautifully done, the story is so heart-touching, the characters are so real. I loved it.

Emery is starting over, she is trying to live her life without the past heartbreak. She set standards for herself to live by. The last thing she needs is someone like Drake Chambers to mess it up.

Drake has everything riding on his football career. That's all he cares about. He doesn't need or want anything like Emery going into his life and messing it up for him.

Drake and Emery aren't exactly friends when they meet. He's everything she doesn't want. And she's a complication that he doesn't need.

But there is no denying the attraction between these two. But of course the pasts they both are running from catch up to them rather quickly.
Drake doesn't want or need any complication. But then he meets Emery. Drake has had to shoulder everything that goes on in his life alone for years. He pushes Emery away and struggles with his feelings for her.
Emery wants to start over, be someone who isn't broken by her past and to go after her dreams. Emery starts to get closer to Drake, but he pushes her away again and again.
There is a lot of back and forth tug-of-war in this book.
Drake and Emery have a hard time getting on the same page.
I felt for both of the characters and I did shed a few tears while reading this. Not a lot but I did cry some.
Drake and Emery work on a school project together that hits close to home for both of them. And the closer they get for each other, the more they fall for each other, the harder they pull back.
I really understood where Drake was coming from after learning from his past, but it still hurt my heart.
Emery and Drake both go through so much emotion in this book. But they figure it out. Their ideas of forever are changed and they don't get what they thought their dreams where but sometimes the things you don't think are ideal for you are just what you need.
This book goes through the emotions on these two young people who really aren't looking for anything. They both have their ideas and standards of forever. But when things come crashing down around them they are forced to make decisions that can change their forevers.
The story of Emery and Drake is one built on the idea of two people who don't want anything that can get away of their plans. But life or fate changes that and shows them that their original plans aren't what they were really meant to be.
Lisa's writing is amazing. I love her style and the way she is able to manipulate her story and characters and make them feel alive. I can't wait to read more from her.
*Quote- "For once, I'd let myself follow my heart, and it led me to her." -Drake
"Trust. It happens easily, but it can be broken even easier. Question is, how easy is it to gain back?" -Emery

There is no sensation, no experience more delicious and tempting to the senses than the taste of forbidden love. The longing... The desire... The unquenched thirst for his touch. He was the man I was never supposed to love. I was supposed to hate him. I suppose part of me did and that is what made the desire so much more intense. He set a fire under my skin that burned white hot with every smoldering glance. He sets my soul ablaze, the slow burn of passion aching in every inch of my body.

Black Horse. The name haunted my dreams... But regardless of family vendettas, old hurts and contemptuous blood shed, the heart wants what it wants... and mine has a mind of its own and my mind is set on Colton McClain.

His family is known by his father’s nickname: Black Horse. Like one of the four horses flying out of the gates of hell, Tom “Black Horse” McClain ripped my world apart fifteen years ago. I was only seven when I found my mother and father dead in their beds, with Tom McClain standing over them with a blood stained butcher knife. He would have come for me, too, had my brothers not saved me. Seth, my older brother, swooped me up before I had the chance to scream and covered my mouth with his hand.

Tom McClain sought out the services of my father in a time of great need. My father, Nathan Ford, was a highly reputable criminal defense attorney, who took on Tom’s case when he was accused of murdering his wife after she was caught in bed with another man. Tom didn’t have the money to pay for my father’s services, so he took on the case pro bono because he believed in Tom’s innocence. I remember my dad meeting with Tom in his study while my mother looked after Colton, my brothers and I in the kitchen. We had become very close. My brothers once considered Colton their best friend. Not anymore. </ span>

My father got Tom off on a technicality. The prosecution had no reliable witnesses and they weren’t about to rely on the testimony of a five year old boy; Colton himself. He had witnessed the whole ordeal himself. How does Tom repay my father for his kindess and generosity? He murdered him in his sleep. He killed Daddy first. Momma screamed when she saw a man standing over her bed, and that is what woke me. In just my nightgown and socks, I tip-toed down the hall past Timmy, Randy and Seth’s bedrooms and as I entered the doorway to Momma and Daddy’s room, Tom McClain plunged a knife through my mother’s chest. My blood ran cold. I tried to scream but no sound would come out. The next thing I knew, Seth had his hand over my mouth and we hid in the hall closet. Tears streamed down my face as my arms and legs shook. I could her Tom’s boot echo against the hard wood floor of the hall.

“Sssh... Don’t say a word...” I remember Seth urging.

The air in the closet was stifling; warm and dead like a coffin. I could hear my brothers’ heavy breathing. Our dog Micah’s frantic barking from the back yard. She knew something was horribly wrong. His bootfalls were getting closer... louder... I took a deep breath and didn’t dare exhale in fear that he would hear me. Somehow, I was able to stifle my tears, but something happened that was out of my control. My thought caught from my sobbing. Tom heard it. The foot steps intensified, beating a path to the closet door. Seth, still firmly holding me, swung around so I was facing the inside of the closet. I focused on the faded floral pattern of the shelf lining that was barely visible in the dark lighting of the closet. I focused on anything but the sound of Tom McClain’s approaching footsteps. Then a loud clicking sound made it impossible. The sound of a shot gun barrel banging into place. He didn’t even bother opening the door. </ span>

Bang! Bang! Then silence.

Out of instinct I jumped into the shelf before me and cowered behind the extra blankets mother kept neatly stored on the shelf. I was stunned that I was still alive, until reality set in. Seth had slumped down against the door of the closet, unrecognizable and motionless. The shotgun blast had obliterated his once handsome face.

I am supposed to hate Colton McClain, but I can’t. When the police showed up the next day, they found Colton locked in his father’s pick-up a block away, hungry, thirsty and distraught. He was taken away by the state and put in foster care because none of his relatives wanted to have anything to do with the Black Horse name. Black Horse was caught trying to jump the border with my father’s wallet in his pocket and $10,000 in cash in a duffel bag. He traveled alone, having abandoned Colton in his truck back in Oakely. I guess his boy knew too much. When officials apprehended him, they ran my Daddy’s license and discovered that he was found murdered. Tom pleaded insanity, but after a thorough psychiatric evaluation, it was concluded that Tom McClain knew exactly what he was doing. He was sentenced to prison for twenty years, having received a lenient judge; a rarity in the State of Texas.

My surviving brothers Randy and Tim could never know about Colton and I. They’ve had it out for him for years. Bloodlines run thick around here. The sins of the fathers will forever haunt the sons, and women are to stand back and stay out of the way. Well, I have something to say about that... Fuck that, Colton McClain didn’t murder my family. His father did... and he suffered just as much as we did. Now fifteen years after the crime that screwed both of our lives up royally, Black Horse is getting out of jail. Just four days until his release. Colton wants to hide me. He said we can run... Start over somewhere else. My brothers are armed to the teeth and a war is about to break out. I have no intentions of sitting down or running away like a little girl. We cannot hide from this anymore.</ span>

Our past does not own us, and we owe it to our hearts to show the world that love can arise from the darkest of places. We only have to survive to tell the tale.</ span>

New Alert; Schedule and more

Hey y'all so as you probably know from Facebook and Twitter I had some connection problems and have been out of touch for over a week. I am back up and running now but it really messed my whole schedule for June up. I'm going to touch bases on a few things with you in this post. I'll share the Schedule that is still in the works, since there are only a few days left in June there aren't many things I can do about it. I'll start up the Book Talks, Author Talks and Features again next week. I don't know what I'm going to do first yet but I will get to that. I also have made a decision that was hard to make and affects the fate of the blog. But it is for the good of this and I hope it works out. I love doing this blog and sharing these books with you. But I'll get to that, first let me share with you the Schedule as of now.

*Note- Schedule is subject to change as I am taking Tour requests for July and August.

So I have three things going up tomorrow. Two Release Blitzes and one Review Tour, make sure you check them out.

As I've said I will restart the Book Talks again next week.

I only have two spots right now Scheduled for July so I hope to fill it up more and also I will be open for August sign ups as well. That's all for what's going on right at this moment. I will update a Schedule for July.

 Now for the big news.

I am the only Blogger that works on this Blog. As you know there have been times where I've gone out of town and had to put things on hold until I got back. And since my last problem it really made me mad.

I love doing this, but when I run into problems in which I can't do the Tours I'm signed up for or the Book Talks I have planned it makes my name as a Blogger not a popular one.

And I've been thinking about this for a while but now I think it's the best thing.

I want to take on another Blogger. I need someone to be here and help me out when I can't do something.

While I am a little skeptical about taking on another Blogger to run the Blog I know it is the right thing.

So if any of you would like to be apart of my Blog I would love for you to contact me. At the moment I am only looking for one Blogger but maybe in the future we can open our doors to more.

No experience is necessary. I was a newbie to this whole Blogging thing in January and I am still a newbie 5months later there is still a lot I don't know. So you can be a passionate reader who has been thinking of doing something like this but was hesitant to start your own or become apart of an already established one. Or you can just be someone who likes to read who thinks this will be a fun hobby, and it is, I love it, it's just a lot of work so be prepared for that. Or you can be apart of an already established Blog who wants to take on another one. Or you could be a Blogger who no longer is apart of a Blog.

No matter what you are if you are interested I would love to talk to you.

You can contact me at the Blog Email Tell me about why you would want to be apart of this team and a little about what you would be interested in doing.

That's it for this News Alert! Look out for a Official July Schedule in a few weeks and check into the blog to see all the happenings

Before tonight Cassie Tate’s biggest concerns were whether she could pass Algebra and how she was going to keep Elora, her best friend, from dressing her in a skimpy fairy costume for Halloween. Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves. He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. His life is not his own; he lives in the service of the Dark Elf King. He slays who he must, has mercy on no one, is relentless in his hunt, and never tires of seeing his prey fall. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves. Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen. Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be. The questions must be asked, does love really cover a multitude of sins? Can true love actually conquer all or will his darkness consume those around him until all that stands is an assassin with the blood of the mortal realm on his hands?

All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock... And that was the moment he showed up. But eventually they learn that not much about their existence can be normal. Especially when the Races' two commanding Goddesses are involved. One of the Goddesses is on a quest to tilt the scale of power to her side. The other will never let it happen, even if it means kicking Jatred and Jasmira's love to the curb. Nothing is off limits, including removing Jatred's memories of Jasmira. To complicate things even more, there are the Universe's powers to consider. They are trapped in an ancient Amulet in order to protect the stability of the world. But the Universe has a mind of its own, and when the powers are unleashed, the forces of nature are disturbed; earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions shake the Earth.  If I were to give it an Amazon Rating it would be a 3. I just didn't connect well with the concept of the book.

But that does it wasn't good. Because it was, this was a good book and I enjoyed reading it.

Julia is a character who basically lost everything in the fire. Her home, her parents, her whole life is destroyed.

Cayne is someone she meets while she is hiding out days after her life is turn-upside down. And then suddenly her life is turned around again. This time in a different way.

Julia learns that there might be something more going on than meets the eye. Something more to her than she originally thought.

There are so many components of this book that worked and so many that didn't. I'm not going to give a cynical review and talk about what I didn't like.

What I am going to do is say how much I enjoyed reading it. It was different than what I normally read, I don't normally stray from my romance books so it was nice to venture out and discover something new. I'm all into magic and adventure and demons and all that good stuff as well.

To me this book is good and has something that I think readers are going to love, it has adventure and danger and a hottie of course and you can never go wrong with a hot guy.

It has the pain of loss and the heartbreak of love, it has something to offer. This is a book that talks about having your life flipped upside down where you lose everything. Just because I couldn't get into it the way that I wanted to doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy reading it.

This is the first book I've read by Ella James and I'd say that I would read another one of her books because she keeps it interesting and at the end of the book I was like wow.

This book seems more than it is, and the reader would be surprised by the things they didn't see coming.

I would continue the series because of wanting to find out what happens next. Not everyone will react to the same book the same way, and that is what's awesome about reading. So even though it wasn't a great match for my taste it captured my attention and I would keep reading the series until it's finished because that is the impact that Ella's writing has on you.

Title: Changing Forever (Rain 2, can be read as a stand alone)
Author: Lisa De Jong
Age Group: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Mae I Design

I’ve always let my past dictate my future, letting it paint a picture of exactly what I don’t want to be. Where I don’t want to end up.

Drake Chambers is as arrogant as I am stubborn. A college quarterback, a national star. I thought he was just another one of those guys ... the type every girl should stay away from, but he’s carrying more than the weight of the football team on his shoulders.

He unravels the feelings and beliefs I’ve held onto for so long.

I thought we had it all figured out. Two people who’d finally found their happily ever after, but the past always has a way of sneaking into the present.

With one decision, everything changes ... forever.

Guest Post from Main Character Drake Chambers
Describe your “offensive strategy” for winning Emery.
I’m not sure Emery wants to hear this again, but honestly, I didn’t want a girl in my life, not the way Emery is. I wasn’t trying to go after her, and I know she wasn’t looking for a guy like me. I think fate made up the strategy, wanted us together because we’d understand each other. For a while, I hated fate, but fate doesn’t come without a purpose. I am a guy and guys tend to fuck up when they overthink things. I fucked up big time, and then I did need a game winning strategy. I really wanted her – no scratch that - I needed her, but she deserved the best version of me. I waited until I could give it to her, hoping it would be enough. I prayed every day along the way that I wasn’t too late, that she’d actually forgive me. Obviously, I’m not going to tell you if this was a win or loss. You have to find that out yourself.

Singing in the shower takes on a whole new meaning in Melissa Pearl's first Contemporary Romance.

Ella Simmons does not want to move across the country. But she is, because her boyfriend has persuaded her to join him at UChicago to finish out her college education. Never able to tell him no, she hops on a plane and makes the trek from LA expecting to adjust to life like she's often forced to, but things are not that simple when she hears a luscious voice singing over her shower wall. His deep, sexy tenor makes her weak in the knees, spreading fire through her limbs and making her question everything about her life and relationship.

Can one voice really have that much of an impact?

Cole Reynolds is on his way out. In his final year at UChicao, the only this he wants to do is finish school and get on with this life. But the sweet voice that interrupts his morning shower turns his world upside down. Compelled to find his shower songbird, he begins a search across campus. The only thing to distract him from this goal is his roommate's gorgeous girlfriend who's just arrived from LA - Ella Simmons.

Relationships are put to the ultimate test as future dreams are questioned and friendships are thrown on the line for love.

I really enjoyed reading this book So glad I got a chance to read and review it.

Ella and Cole really connect as characters together and I was 100% on board with their relationship from the start. That doesn't usually happen when I read books and the main characters get placed in a situation like Ella and Cole's and they fall for each other.

But in this book it worked well.

This is book would get a 4 out of 5 stars on amazon.

I loved everything about this book, but there were emotional levels that I didn't connect with. I loved the characters, Cole is this really sweet and awesome guy that every girl wants in their life. And Ella is the type of girl that other girls can find in themselves.

Both of these characters have these dreams that they want, these goals they want to set for themselves, but they also have these things in life that are holding them back.

Ella feels stuck in her ways, scarred for things that happened in the past, and she tries to please what she thinks everyone wants and do what she thinks she should do.

Cole has had it rough and he carries that with him as he tries to figure out how to do what he really wants. And when he finds what he wants he struggles with jumping after it because he knows it's almost impossible for him to have it.

The importance of Jazz music in this book is really something unique and special. When a book has a playlist that really connects to what the feeling in that certain scene is it makes it all that much more special and real to enjoy.

I read the book and then I went and listened to the playlist. And listening to the songs that meant something not only to the book and the characters but to the author while they where writing the book is amazing. You get to relive those scenes from the book and have the emotion that was already there amplified by the music it is set to. And that is exactly what happened with Fever and the Fever Playlist.

I can't wait to see what Melissa has planned next for this new amazing series!
