Book Talk Review; Over The Hills And Far Away

This book is so much more that just a Rock Star Romance...

Kenna MacGregor was raised to believe that music is the language of the soul. That life is a song, pulsing with beats and rhythms, harmonizing the inner spirit with the energy of the universe.
In a fated moment, she discovers the one person whose music reaches deep into her being, speaking to her in ways no one else ever could.

He is the dominating, larger-than-life, in-your-face Phil Deveraux.
He's the lead singer of her favorite band; her adolescent fantasy.

She is just a face in the crowd.
A face that Phil is destined to see, and would never forget.

Lips touch, igniting an inferno-hot passion, melting two souls together in ways neither could foresee.
Time stands still for these two, while life relentlessly moves forward for them both.

I can't tell you the last time I was captivated by a book on the level that Over The Hills and Far Away captivated me.

The book opens with Kenna and her two friends getting high and going off to a bar to watch their favorite band.

I haven't found many rock star books that caught my attention. Apparently I'm not normal because rock stars aren't really my thing.

But this book is so much more than just a rock star book.

Kenna meets Phil, the lead singer for NOLA's Junk. They have this intense connection, it's more than a physical connection. It's an emotional connection as well as a spiritual connection.

Spirituality and connecting with the world around you, connecting with your inner-self plays a big part in this book and I love it, because you don't see that.

I felt myself connecting more with this book than I have any other book in a long time. I don't know what it was about it.

There was so much more than the romance, there was so much more than the fact that Phil was a rock star. His fame doesn't hold much pull, unless they're in the middle of a rocker crowd and I love that.

A famous but not spotlight famous rock star.

The connection between the two characters is instant, but it's not over the top, or cheesy. It's like the coming together of two souls, and I love that. It's deep and it means so much more.

The sex is hot. What's a rock star book without hot sex?

But the meaning behind the sex runs deeper than that. Kenna and Phil connect with each other over and over again in everything that they do. It makes it all the more sweeter, really.

This book is complex, it's captivating, it's hot. It has everything you could want in a romance and more.

I felt like Kelli Jean was giving up a huge piece of herself in this book. I know I felt like i was giving up a piece of myself while I was reading.

And I'm okay with that.

Yes, the characters smoke weed. And I'm perfectly fine with that, a lot of people do. But social stigma regards it as a bad thing. While I don't agree, I can't say I haven't thought about it. It's who I am, it's who we, as a society are.

I grew up in the world of drugs, I understand it, I think differently than someone who had a more sheltered childhood would. The fact that Kelli Jean wasn't afraid to show it, says a lot about her, and I'm glad for it. Because it's real.

I was blown away by this book. I didn't even know this book existed until about a month ago.

I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to read it. Phil and Kenna quickly became one of my favorite couples.

And by her writing in this book, Kelli Jean is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

*Quote- "For the first time in nine months, I felt something. Standing in line at the register, I became fully aware that I was still very much alive. It probably wouldn't last, but it gave me hope that, one day, I would be a real human being again." -Kenna

"I think you had to find out who you were before you lose yourself to someone else. That way, you never forget who you truly are, how strong you really are on your own. And you're not just strong, Kenna. You're a power to be reckoned with. Never forget that."

"The minute I saw you that night, that was it. You were mine. And the moment I touched your hand...you stole my soul." -Phil
