Life is beyond our control. It can bring joy, laughter, and happiness, then turn around and rip your heart out of your chest without warning.

Abel Matheson received a cold dose of life’s reality six months ago when the man he loved most lost his fight against cancer. Free-spirited, easy-going Abel doesn’t know how to cope with the rotting, festering grief growing inside him. What was once an easy life has become a struggle to put one foot in front of the other.

His grades are slipping, his job is suffering, money is tight, and the nightmares plaguing his sleep are relentless. Something has to give. He can’t keep going like this. Desperate to end his suffering, Abel falls back on old habits.

Self-destructive habits he knows are wrong. Every time he tries to stand, he ends up face-first in the mud.

On the advice of a counselor, Abel makes attempts to find a support system to help him handle his grief.

Unexpectedly, during his quest toward healing, Abel makes a connection with the most unlikely of people.

His mind wants to rebel against the man who stands before him. Run far and fast in the other direction.

But his heart forms a bond that annihilates his fear. Why this man of all people?

Sometimes you find help and love where you least expect it.

I'm not going to lie I was terrified to read this book. I knew it was going to hurt, and I knew I wasn't ready. Even after having read the book I'm not ready.

No Regrets was beautiful, yes it made me cry, but it wasn't until I saw that Nicky James had planned on writing Abel's After story that made me sob. Throughout the whole book you know what is going to happen to Landon, you know where that is going to leave Abel, but actually seeing it is not easy.

New Beginnings hurts, a lot. I went through a lot of tissues as I was reading. Abel was hurting, I was hurting for him.

After books are not my favorite, I usually stay away from them because it hurts so much. But I had to make sure that Abel was okay because I loved him so much in No Regrets. Abel needed love, he needed time, he needed someone in his corner to help heal him. And that's what he gets in New Beginnings.

New Beginnings isn't a walk in the park. It is a book that follows a broken man on his journey of healing.

My heart bleed, my eyes leaked and so many times I wanted to pull Abel out of my Kindle and hold him.

Nicky James gave us a book that broke our hearts, and then piece by piece put them back together again.

You need to read No Regrets first, you need to understand who Abel is and why he does and acts the way he does in New Beginnings. Once you understand that, you will be able to appreciate the beauty that is New Beginnings. You will cry. You will hate Nicky James for putting Abel through the pain.

But you will feel the healing.

I'm so glad I pushed past my fear of this book and experienced this journey. It hurt, but it healed at the same time.

Nicky James lives in the small town of Petrolia, Ontario, Canada. She is mother to a wonderful teenage boy and wife to a truly supportive and understanding husband who, thankfully, doesn’t think her crazy.
Nicky has always had two profound dreams in life; to fall back hundreds of years in time and live in a simpler world and to write novels. Since only one of those dreams was a possibility, she decided to make the other come alive on paper.
Nicky writes MM romance books in a variety of styles including contemporary, medieval, fantasy, and historical.
