"Is it possible to fall in love with words?"
AJ Compton, This Old Heart of Mine
This book left me numb. In fact while I was reading there were so many profound moments that I would put the book down and let the words absorb into my soul.
The story told is one of second chances. A second chance at a life that was never promised. A second chance at a life after everything was lost. Second chances at love. And it was also a story about finding, understanding and accepting yourself.
This Old Heart of Mine was one of the most poignantly beautiful stories I've ever read. It deals with a very real and sensitive issue in a way that both broke and warmed my heart. I can't even really say this was an emotional rollercoaster for me. The beginning was sad, yes, but only briefly. Then it turned into this beautiful story about friendship, starting anew, living life to the fullest and blooming love. So when my heart was suddenly plummeting to the ground from 36,000 feet, I could only wish that my parachute would eventually open.
My heart broke. AJ Compton's words cut through me like knives. I felt every emotion of the characters and found myself reading aloud because I had to let it all out. It was devastating, but beautiful. I'm not going to tell you if my parachute ever opened. I can tell you it is well worth the journey to find out and I urge you to read this book.
