Book Talk Review; The Summer Remains

This book has made my year. My entire year, and it's only May

Twenty-four-year-old Summer Johnson knows two things. The first is that due to a quickly worsening medical condition, she faces a risky surgery in three months’ time that may or may not end in her death. The second is that she would like to fall in love before then.

As spring sinks into her namesake season on the Florida coastline, Summer plays the odds and downloads a new dating app - and after one intriguing message from a beautiful surfer named Cooper Nichols, it becomes clear that the story of what may be her last few months under the sun is about to be completely revised. All she has to do now is write something worth reading.

Tender, honest, devastating and triumphant, The Summer Remains explores a very human battle being waged in a very digital age: the search for a love that will outlast this temporary borrowing of bones. In an era when many feel compelled to share and re-share anything about everything, prepare to feel a love so special, you will want to hug it close and make it yours forever.

This book wrecked me. It fucking wrecked me.

When I say that this book made my year I fucking mean it. There are so many emotions in this book, the characters are so real, so raw. The writing style is flawless, Seth knows how to manipulate the words so the reader gets the full experience.

Summer is a twenty four year old woman who is essentially dying. She has an upcoming surgery that can mean life or death for her. Everyone is always asking her what she wants, what she wants in the short amount of time she has.

The only thing she can think of, the only thing she craves, is love. She wants love. She wants to be able to fall head over heels in love with someone. She wants to be someone's everything. But she knows that that is not an option. Not for her.

Until she takes to social media. In this day of age social media plays a big part in our lives. As young people these days we allow social media to dictate the choices we make, and this is what Summer does.

When she meets Cooper Nichols the game changes. They begin a relationship that is more than friendship but not dating.

The journey of the summer leads both characters down paths they never expected. It opens them up to love, it also opens them up to heartbreak.

This is a book that I cried while reading. Oh My God, how much I cried during this book. The emotions were all over the place. The characters were real and raw, the story was pure emotion.

I have never felt this type of wrecking, heartbreaking emotion in a book. This book absolutely ruined me.

Seth is a master story teller. He is able to tell a story of pure raw emotion, not many stories are able to survive on just complex thoughts and feelings, but The Summer Remains is able to.

*Quote- "You know, we all have scars, Summer. If yours are only on the outside, you should consider yourself lucky."  -Cooper

"The truth means nothing if the lie is pretty enough" -Saviour

"A mask can make a beautiful face invisible, and beauty can make a scar invisible. It's all just a bunch of beautiful bullshit if you ask me." -Cooper

"We were little crabs scurrying around on the sand trying to find a hole to sink into before a wave came up and swept us away, lost and scared, but no longer alone, The wave was life." -Summer
