Jagger just about destroyed me. It was hard to read how over and over again Miri and Jag were forced apart by evil hands.
This story, with all it's harsh truths and twisted sense of right and wrong, is beautiful in a way. Two broken people are able to find each other and love each other, despite growing up in a world that doesn't care about love.
Betrayal. Sacrifice. Promises. Blood. Death. Hate. Love.
It all comes to play across these two books.
Junkie was just the warm up, I knew that while I was reading. It's Jagger in which Heather C Leigh brings out all the stops. She doesn't let anything stand in her way as she rips her characters to shreds. Does it make them stronger? Does it serve a purpose.
Yes and yes. But that doesn't make it any easier to read.
Jagger takes the love of two people and tries to break them. The stakes are high, and only the strong will survive.
Miri dealt with a lot of shit in both book, but she stayed true to who she was.
Jag let his past, present, and future merge and it almost cost him everything.
Luckily they found each other.
But things aren't always that simple.
Heather C Leigh upped the stakes, she had me gasping and clutching my heart at all times, never knowing what was being thrown into the mix next. That is masterful storytelling, and tells me that I need to read more of her books.
Jagger made me afraid for these characters at times, because I couldn't predict what was coming next. But I never imagined that the story I would find, would keep me on my toes or have me catching my breath the way Jagger did. That is pure author brilliance.
